Here is the little farm house I painted yesterday. I paid such attention to the values. I know there is some adjusting that can be made, but overall I was rather pleased. The propane tank behind the truck bed is the only thing that really is weak and I think I may just paint it out. I don't believe it adds anything to the overall composition. Friday, April 24, 2009
Painting at the Aquarius Trail in Louisville
Here is the little farm house I painted yesterday. I paid such attention to the values. I know there is some adjusting that can be made, but overall I was rather pleased. The propane tank behind the truck bed is the only thing that really is weak and I think I may just paint it out. I don't believe it adds anything to the overall composition.

First of all, I was surprised to see that such a thing still existed in Louisville - a little farmhouse in what has become a sea of development along the Boulder Turnpike.
Second, what caught my eye in this painting is the doorway entrance in shadow, and also the shadow under the eaves. As the sun gets higher and brighter in spring sky, the light changes dramatically and that you were able to capture that and remind the viewer of the seasons changing in such a subtle way is a gift.
It is true, there is not much left, but this location is a few miles off the turnpike towards Lafayette.
I was painting this very academically, working strictly on correct perspective and values. It shows up as a strong thumbnail in my folders but it isn't actually something that floats my boat.
